i wouldnt rebuild. just go to salvage yard. pick one up for $300-500 . if you rebuild, its going to get up there in price.

do not mess with individual guages. they have fine wires for the springs that pull out. i went threw 3 of them before i figured out i had to replace whole cluster. :(

here are some trannys for ya. sounds like yours is gone. might have overheated bearings inside or broke something. but doesnt sound good. :(
