I wired up the ground, RED, and yellow Battery wires to confirm deck power - deck would not respond....

Not a terrible idea. I didn't say use it every day nor did I say to flood the belt with the stuff. A quick shot of WD40 ain't going to do any damage and will tell you without any labour if the belt...
