Either way the pump would have needed to be pulled to change the gasket and may have well changed the pump while it was out since it's 11 years old.

Thanks for all the input. Turns out it was the waterpump. Ended up paying to have it done totalling $550. Not the $400 something I was quoted with an aftermarket pump.

I'd have to look in the manual but it may have a safety switch if it notices any back pressure. So you can't squeeze your neck in the sunroof! Maybe the track isn't allow the roof to slide freely.
