Weird Starting Issue
Hey guys, how you been? I'm having a starting issue, need some slight insight. On cold (mostly, happened once or twice when not so cold) days, the first time i start the car for the day, it starts, goes to about 1k, sputters and dies. Then when i crank it over again it will sputter but not start. I turn the key off, wait a sec, crank and its fine.
Now if i start it the first time and hit the gas before it dies, it will idle fine. It's important to note that i always wait for the FP to finish priming before i start any vehicle, and the FP doesnt appear to be suffering any pressure loss, intermittent cut off, etc.
I was thinking coolant temp sensor since this didnt start till it actually began getting cold. I changed the battery after this started, no change. Thoughts?

Same problem...this insight was relatively useful and helped my problem, comming directly out of the haynes manual.
cold start issues relate to,
1.coolant temperature and/or intake air temperature sensors.
2. ignition switch
3. Fuel not reaching the injectors (ie fuel delivery problems)
4. dead/weak battery
5. corroded battery terminals especialy ground wires.
i think that was it.
based on your diagnosis, i would bet on ignition switch ( my problem ). good luck.
