I installed a stillen short shifter and no problems whatsoever. Just on the install the first time, I installed it a bit too tight and then loosened it and it's been great eversince.

Never will happen to my maxima and yes I said never. Always kept clean and if salt does touch it before I park I hose it down in the building garage, I don't think I have a spec of rust.

If it came down to removing the complete clear coat I would just have someone professionally refinish them. The clear coat protects the finish, so it might look good taking out the complete clear...

Also if dirt and grime was there and we have cars that are 13 years old and being out to the elements of the sun, salt and extreme heat doesn't help, dirt will stain if left long enough to a point...
