plz don't say this is a stupid question...but...

Well i found a maxima i'm really interested in. Its a dark dark green, almost black, tan leather interior with leather door inserts, digital climate control, sunroof, 125k miles, i think a 93, am/fm/cassette/cd player, bose. Everything on this car is PERFECT, one little spot on the driver side front fender, looks like a buggy hit it, nothing major. Well my question is, when i was looking at edmunds.com to appraise it, i looked at the specifications and it said the 92-94 GXE maximas only have 160 hp, but the Se's have 190, is this true??

89-94 GXE's and 89-91 SE's have the VG30E, 160 HP, 190Ft-LB, monsters around town as their power is mid to low.

Only the 92-94 SE's have the VE30DE which has 190HP and 190ft-lb, and its power is mid to high. Very nice engine if you do alot of highway travle.

GL finding a good max!~Alex

what about a 5th gen?

5th gen DE-K powerband feels like a VE's, but the VE feels a little stronger up high.

The last person I remember ever arguing about VG's being better than VE's was skymax, but the difference is he had the mods to back it up... then again his fully modded VG was still only really on par with a stock VE, been almost 3 years now tho

Typically its easy to argue when no idea, experience... Thats me in this issue.

Yes original VG is lame, may be changed: pack more mixture into cylinders and thatsit. Block is the same as VE (except slight compression diff, (bypass VTC for now)). Modded personal opinion: no need for more pwr [than 200], in everyday drive. And still theres never enough pwr... Maybe if I had VE, the mentioned number would stand at 250? Sigh. VG is enough for now.

The blocks aren't the same. Same bore/stroke/rod journal diameter/width, yes.

Reading this forum, one gets the idea RE4F02A is not the best. I dont buy it as its got best features in my experience... but as mentioned, its design table pwr requirements seem to be for low pwr (where it has been used, oil capacity).

i like our body style maxima more than any other maxima, so of course i want the 190 hp max, then modd it to hell and back (perfomance) then it'd have more than that hp wise. I just think the 3rd gen max looks the best IMO

VG can be modded easily to fill u first wish. But the second; theres no return trip, its eternally final... youre right about 3g looks, however that will have vanished if u get there - dont. In the meantime, find a VE.

I really thought it was hard to find a clean lookin VE 5spd, since my area doesn't have any. All are auto, or if you do find a 5spd(very rare), it is most surely completely destroyed inside and out. Thats what I thought before I was ready to buy one. Once my VG died, I started searching those sites like www.edmunds.com and to my amazement, there were clean 5spds all over the place in the near by state known as New Jersey. I never thought it would be that easy. It just sucks havin a 5spd here in NY.. Too much freakin traffic. May just get myself some cheap auto car to commute in.

if you are patient enough I will be finishing up my 93 and selling it cheap. Its an auto though...it will have a nice new blue paint job though.

I havent had any motivation to finish it but if someone was willing to at least look at it and think about buying it then maybe I will get on the ball and finish it up.

I go to bham all the time and I know ftpayne isnt that far from there.

Whats the difference of the 2 engines? can it be done and how hard is the swap? I think that was what he was looking for and personally I wouldn't mind knowing the same.

I want to know the differences so that I can decide if it's eaisier to buy another car, Or if I want to challenge the swap! Not what you think.

LOL well its a lot of work for 30HP. Adding a turbo would be the better way to go.

You have to change the motor, trans, all wiring, ecu, axles, hubs and probably a few other things I am forgetting. All those parts would cost you more than just buying a car with a VE in it already.

the VEs A/T trans doesn't quit very easily.
I've been flogging mine for 2 years now, with no terrible problems.

I do need to do my shifter bushing though
