The other axles that Advance sells seem to work pretty well. Fenco is the brand. They're cheaper and supposed to be remanufactured, but they're apparently generally low on cores and end up shipping...

Yeah, you'd notice a severe decrease in performance if it were actually consuming that much fuel, too. I second (3rd?) the fuel leak diagnosis. Look under the car to see if it's dripping anywhere....

You're going to have to cut and weld something unless you can manage to bend/fold/cut the baffle inside the muffler somehow. Maybe cut a slit in an inconspicuous place on the muffler.
