That gm 3.8l v6 has been around for years and years and years and has proven to be mediocre at best.

And that engine is rated @ 260 bhp, not whp....the car probably loses about 10-15% of that by the time it puts it to the wheels like most fwd/rwd cars do...so you're looking at about approx 230whp, which isn't bad but not really superior to a max in any way...and the gtp weighs more....and don't hold their value as long....

just saying....

260 at the crank...but like most GM engines its underrated and these tend to dyno around 250whp...not too mention the torque is high close to 275wtq.

The gtp is only about 300 lbs heavier and is only a bolt on or two away from 13s 1/4s

KBB for this car is $12,000

KBB for a 2004 Maxima is $12,000

Just saying

Not quite 13's... but I get what you're saying, although the pontiac in this situation would be much easier/cheaper to make power with since it's already sc'ed! Besides cattman headers/catback/ypipe would run you close to 2k if not more!!! If you put 2k into the pontiac....it would be pretty fast.

But f that car was all motor the max would be 10000x a better car but b/c it's sc'ed..well....I guess it is a better deal can't really argue with him there

Although with 12k I would've bought a 2001 model lexus gs400,it's what I wanted before I bought the max but did not have the funds for lol

On a side note last weekend on my way to the club I saw a pontiac just like this race some type of jaguar sports car(the jag looked exotic, sat low to teh ground/ coupe/ def rwd/but I have no idea what it was since it was night) and the pontiac was keeping up with the jag ROFL He was mad....you could tell because after he realized he wasn't pulling on him he started driving like a pissed off teen swirving through traffic trying to tuck tail and run

Not sure how you think this handles better than a 5th gen...I've driven a couple and they seem just like the 6th gen; floaty and heavy. I nearly died when I came into a turn too hot, and it wasn't even as fast as I normally take this particular turn with my maxima...the GTP had a lot of understeer. Thing felt fast as hell from a stop, though. Great low-end torque.

Whaaa, you do now that theres a completely stock 5.5gen on here running 14 flat right. lol And a OBX header and 3" cattman exhaust can be had for just slightly over a 1G. I've only seen one 5.5 gen with headers that did run in the 13s...GTPs can be quick once you get around there weight of 3600lbs. SC'd they are ok, but when you turbo one then it gets fast.

im pretty sure if u just go crazy on ebay u can get headers exhuast and a test pipe all in there with a CAI for under 1G, that will def. put a 6spd 5.5 with a decent driver in 13s. there are actually some hotshot headers on sale on ebay i saw them yesterday

no such thing as a stock any gen maxima running low 14's. And why get the cattman exhaust when you can fabricate one yourself for much cheaper andf just as good quality....

GTP's are already sc'ed, why would you turbo one? It would be easier/more cost effective to keep it supercharged and increase boost/build motor

but honestly, why would you want to go that fast in a fwd car in the 1st place lol so you can hit boost and become unable to turn?

Because everyone in their right mind knows a turbo will make higher numbers than a roots type charger. It's built for boost might as well do it right lol.

But as drunky said he has some other mystical project so he is not going to really go crazy on this gtp.

Just YouTube gtp turbo. They only are about 3g to swap and have a car run high 11s

I'm done

Welll I am a Maxima guy... I love my 5.5 6MT, but I like my Pontiac also. I know that these cars can do 12s for FAR FAR less money than a damn Maxima. My buddys for example sits right next to my T/A which ran a 12.4. He has only done full exhaust, pulley, intake and a chip... Not too bad if you ask me. Try to get a 5.5 gen to do that on the same budget he did and you will be given a rude awakening.

Just Saying

you really should read the 1/4 threads more often

http://forums.maxima.org/1-4-1-8-mil...en-record.html

I always knew with a great driver, a 5.5 6mt is capable of very low 14s and maybe even high 13s. It's just a matter of time before someone hits high 13s on a STOCK maxima.

Also, complete bolt ons on a 5.5 6mt will EASILY get you in mid 13s, maybe even lower. Saying those mods will yield times of high 13s really is underestimating a modded 5.5 6mt. Trust me...I know.

I do not know what you consider a stock motor but I consider stock=no engine mods, no spray, nothing that didn't come from factory except maybe an intake as they do not provide much hp

And no max runs low 14's stock, just because someone says so, does not make it true. I understand one may post up a slip or vid of a pass in the 13's or 14's but there is no such proof that the car is stock, and I am not one to believe what random ppl say, we should all know ppl love to exaggerate the truth, especially when it comes with cars/modifiying

Trust me, I love max's and would love to boast such claims but I am not one to be persuaded by the opinions of anonymous ppls without proof.

vq35's do not hold nitrous well. Our engines will succumb to serious problems with that much of a shot. I would do no more than 50 unless the engine has been rebuilt

I've known a few ppl that sprayed 70-100 and shortly were swapping in new vqs because the last one....failed...lol

My low 14s quote came from a magazine on street tires...drags can do alot.

Don't know what you drove...but thats completely the opposite of how this feels, I have the Comp G package which is better then aftermarket according to the GP forums. I have rear independent IIRC and the front suspension uses a nice setup and the engine sits in a better place

So the time slips and videos that people post up are lies? GTFO with that ****, just because u cant do it doesnt mean its not possible. Another thing u should understand is tracks differ, some tracks are "faster" than others, so on one track a 5.5 gen might only be able to crank out a high 14, u take it to a better one it runs low 14s. We go by the best time on the best track, why use the slow time?

If u checked the thread that was posted about u would have found this vid of a stock 5.5 gen:

We go by the best time on the best track, why use the slow time?

If u checked the thread that was posted about u would have found this vid of a stock 5.5 gen:

I never said I attempted to do make a 14 second pass, my car runs 16's, the best pass I did was a 15.9 stock. Now my car is an auto and it is a 2000 model.

I understand that with a auto you lose some hp because of the tq converter, and I understand that the 3.5 has about 30 more hp.

But its hard for me to believe that basically my same car with 30 more hp and a manual is a WHOLE 2 seconds faster in the 1/4 mile.

30 hp does not make the difference between a 14 sec car and a 16 sec car so there must've been some other variable which allowed the car to be so quick..
