Same issue several years back when I installed '00-'01 tails on my '02. Had to put a slightly thicker amount of sealant between them and the body. Never leaked again.

50mm offset is massive inset into wheel well. Based on the pics, I think once you get them pushed out, they will look good. You might consider the 10mm/15mm set up or they will still look inset too...
