I seriously doubt you'd be able to buy a good replacement engine and get it installed for less than $1100.

If the chain is making noise, trouble could happen at any time, even in the short term....

I'm positive the car could get to 500k with no problem, engine-wise. But, the suspension work it needs tipped the balance in favor of targeting that money toward a replacement.

Well, we've coaxed many, many, many miles out of our trusty 5th Gen, but it looks like it's finally come time to say adieu. Tomorrow, our Maxima will be retired and replaced by a slightly newer ride....
