Park at a dark spot at night. Look under the hood for any sparks jumping off the plug wires. Depending on the mileage you should have changed wires by at least 90k or so. Spark plugs can be checked...

This is certainly the alternator if both the brake and battery light comes on. Check the belts and replace the alternator. Save your bill , usually you get a lifetme warranty.

$420 for timing belt , water pump ,seals, coolant flush and auto tranny flush. Not bad for a local mechanic

I have changed them almost thrice ( over 60000 miles or so ) one two cars and never set the gaps. Maybe I should pull em out and take a look.

I have the same problems, It works sometimes and sometimes at night the light comes on and goes off randomly. I checked the wires they seem ok.
