It certainly sounds like engine not firing, not the dreaded GM auto tranny clutch chatter you so vividly describe. Look to tune, then maybe injectors...I have 121k on my 90 and it was doing the same...

Make sure there is some squirting going on, it cools the pistons, lubes the bores, makes them last longer....There is a reason the factory put the darned things in there in the first place.

Water extraction always leaves some moisture in the capet pad. This may cause rust, mildew and other nasty things. I have always used this method (except in a 1966 Mustang) and never had a problem....
