Switched to Valvoline....negative effects

Alright this past summer i did a complete flush on my auto tranny and put valvoline 75k+ in it. well from then on i had a little slipping from first to second and some WOT downshift problems. i think i am just gonna switch to some OEM fluid but i might put some additive in first. and yes my tranny fluid is at the correct level. did anyone else experience this and what did you do about it.

Sounds like something besides the fluid. How many miles, and has the fluid been changed before? Did you do a flush or just a drain???

What model year is your car? Did you check the manual for which fluid is specified for your car? Nissan has a dizzying array of non-standard, non-Dexron compatible ATFs that are to be used in newer model cars (I don't know when this "custom" ATF trend began, but it's in full swing now). The current gen Max requires the use of "Nissan Matic-K" fluid, IIRC. There are several other "flavors" available for various cars (i.e. Nissan Matic-J for G35s and 350Zs I believe). Oh by the way, a quart of Matic-J for my G costs $11 at the stealer!!! But hey, if your trans is designed to use a particular fluid (with non-standard friction modifiers, etc.), then you'd better use that fluid.

Ooooops, duh, my apologies, I see that yours is a 2000 model. Otherwise, same questions apply. What does the y2k manual call for ATF-wise?

IMO, Valvoline ATF is not upto the mark of other OTC fluids. Another flush is worth it -- try Chevron which I have in my 2K tranny and 6oz of Lubegard Black. Works like a gem -- you will still feel slips or banging into gear when the fluid is cold, but that is how most trannys behave till the fluid reaches a required temperature.

Good luck, note limited slip (1->2) is not going to destroy the transmission.

I don't use "high milage formula" types of any fluid in my car, I don't really see the point. I consider 75,000 miles to be low milage for a Maxima. I still use regular DextronIII/Mercon in both Maximas ('96, 217k and '02, 96k ) and the Sable ('96, 176k) as specified. I also change the fluid every 15k-20k miles.
