Sometimes one or both of the battery connections are sooo damn rusted that the current doesn´t travel properly to the battery from the alternator.

In some situations you NEED to flash others, specially when you drive in a highway and the opposite direction cars got the high beams and need to make them note that the high beams anoys you.
