It is a rock solid trans.
Got one in the family still, a 00 automatic, its bulletproof and shifts like new with the odd drain and refill of the trans fluid.

Well that to me is the only other option too (cracked or broken lines) but I did not see anything when I was under there replacing the canister. I don't know if there is a way to test these lines...

Best solution is to gut the POS Blose and put in something that works.

I don't see why you couldn't remove the timing cover in frame.. Just have to support the engine from below if necessary because of the motor mount on that side.

Sounds like solid engineering to me.. The more oil on the connector, the less corrosion to screw it up!

Stuff like that almost never ends up being an issue. I wouldn't sweat it too much.
