I have this same issue and nothing fixed it......
I have this same issue and nothing fixed it... but what im thinking is that this is not an engine problem but a trans problem. It's like when it happens the trans is being confused as to what gear...

The carrier bearing is on the passenger side.......
The carrier bearing is on the passenger side.... and no it would not make noise on both side because its attached to the passenger side axle only. but if you hear your noise from the passenger side...

I thought for sure that my problems was coming...
I thought for sure that my problems was coming from wheel bearings in the rear just because i had the fronts change this past winter and had the same noise. so I had done just about everything...

I would not do a dealer flush on any older trans... but u can do a manual flush and change the screen... I have a write up on here in doing a manual flush. made my 99 max with 120,000 trans like...

I would personally start with fluids. check for any leaks and take care of that, than change all fluids. Oil, trans, p/s, radiator... if those are good to go than move on to filters. fuel and air...

First time I would use the same bolts but went you get into the second and third time look forward to having leaks. So I would suggest getting new bolts. You will be glad you did.
