rev-up oil pump good for AT 4th gen motor?
There's relatively little on this when searching for "oil pump" or "rev-up". Can I put a rev-up pump on a vq30. The pumps are standard on 300zx's right?

So basically when the other poster said he hoped I had "supporting mods", he meant it's a lot of work for little benefit if I don't have the car juiced up; other than having a better oil pump, a rev-up won't do anything for me...
It would just be a better pump.
Is it possible to install it without raising the engine? Or is that out of the question.

Searched for 5 seconds on google and found this http://forums.maxima.org/all-motor/3...-oil-pump.html. Make sure you read the whole thread. Also lookup dandymax you'll learn alot. I have a revup oil pump in my gf's 3.5 right now with ARP rod bolts.

Pretty sure the 2 pumps are almost identical aside from the revup having stronger internals. Someone posted pics/analysis between the 2 on the Z forums... cant remember where.

I'm guessing that the Rev-up pump may be made to tighter tolerances and may be balanced better, aside from being different materials. Buts thats just speculation.

The tread says the spring inside is difference as well. I'm thinking that it regulates the pressure of the oil.

The FSM for the 2005 350Z makes no distinctions between the oil pressure for the rev-up and non rev-up models (See the LU section). However, the specification only lists pressure at idle and 2000 rpm, so who knows what happenes to the pressure a 6 or 7k rpm.
The spring for the regulator value is noticeably different from Aaron's dissection, so it quite possible could be set at a higher pressure.
It's very difficult to get a 1:1 comparison between the two pumps. One would need a dyno, an oil pressure gauge, and equal bearing clearances on the inside of the motor (ie. the same motor). Just because you have a vq with 100k miles, and you rebuild it with the rev-up pump and notice an increase in pressure doesn't mean the pump makes more pressure. It could be that the bearing clearances are tighter on your newly rebuild motor.
The point is no one knows and it would be difficult to get a proper comparison. Nissan decided to use the rev-up pump in a higher performance version of the vq35, so a lot of people feel that when building a high performance vq30 or vq35, the rev-up pump makes sense. But without knowing exactly how the pumps are different, this is all just speculation.
Personally, I'm still going to use one in my 7k+ redline vq30, but unless you plan to up your rev limit (which is pointless unless you have intake, cams, headers, exhaust, engine management etc.), I'd have to say the stock pump is adequate.
