OEM brake upgrades

So I have 16" rims and do not feel like "upgrading" any time soon seeing as I could get a VQ35 or motorcycle for the same price of good wheels.

I'm starting to look for an affordable brake upgrade, saw the 5.5gen brakes but I don't think they'd give a substantial braking increase. Then I looked at 6th gen brakes.

1. Will these fit a 4th gen besides needing to drill out the caliper brackets and get 6th gen caliper bolts? Will stock 4th gen brake lines work?

2. Per this thread 7 5/8" diameter to the inside of the wheel is required, but it looks more like 7" from the picture. I measured about 7" towards the outside of the wheel and maybe a bit more more towards the inside. I have plenty of caliper clearance, about 3" from the rotor face to the spokes. I'd like to get a junkyard caliper to check, although if they do fit there will obviously be very little clearance. I take it no one else has experience trying to fit these under 16"ers?

3. Not that I'd be willing to pony up for them at this point, but whatever happened to the Fastbrakes 12.2" kit? They had 2-piece rotors and 4-piston wilwood calipers for like $800 that would supposedly fit under 16" wheels but the kit disappeared off their website.

pretty sure the 6th gen setup will not fit under your wheels...it's a 12.6" rotor and the calipers stick out further than your stockers (in terms of both diameter AND offset). Even if they fit in diameter-wise, stock 16s almost certainly don't have the right offset to clear (even 00-01 17" SE wheels don't). i'm assuming you mean stock 16s and not aftermarket.

With stock 16s, you're pretty much stuck with stock brakes aside from pad/line changes...

Consider finding some cheap z32 300zx 16" wheels. I've seen them around for next to nothing. Or G35 17s (from the coupe, not the sedan -- different offset). People on the G forums practically give those things away, I've seen full sets for like $200 in good shape.

I have Z32s... TT rears all around. I have plenty of "offset" clearance, about 3" from the rotor face to the inside of the spokes, IIRC the 6th gen calipers need about 1.5" and stock 4th/5th gen calipers need about 1.25". I am much more worried about diameter, but really all I'd need over you 17" guys is another half inch radius wise... if you've got a half inch clearance then I should be golden.

i'm assuming you are just looking for a rotor upgrade since you have z32 calipers. i would say its not going to happen. i barely cleared 17s diameter wise with j30 calipers and a34 rotors.

What? I have stock brakes save for HPS up front and goodridge SS lines still waiting to be installed.

That's really a bummer, I don't just want a .6" increase in diameter. I've started to look into G35C 17s, does anyone know about how much they weigh?

what he meant by the previous statement is that he has z32 wheels not brakes...if this could happen I would definately do this, but the 5.5 is tempting.

ah ok...

I can't say for sure, but here's a reference on the clearance of the 6th gen setup with 17" wheels....don't know if you can eyeball it or not. PM Puppetmaster maybe...he has the 6th gens brakes on his car and maybe could measure the total radius for you..

Morphius...I worked at a Nissan dealer in Signal Hill .I tried this on an 05 Max once w/ 16" 99 Maxima SE Limited rims. They DONT clear 5th gen front brakes. I know this for a fact.
