6mt Shifter cable issues

So ive been trying to figure out what is wrong. I beleive the cable is actually messed up somehow.

Whats going on is.

When i shift into gears 1 3 5 i can feel the trans go into gear no problem (when shifting easy) then if i push just a little harder the shifercable pops and the shiftknob goes foward a inch or so.

The bracket seems to be just fine

shifter is in 3rd gear, then pushing it the extra bit it goes foward. You can easily hear the poping noise.

Here is a video

What this is doing is not letting me get into 3rd gear when im shifting fast, it just feels like crap like its not even moving the lever on the trans at all. BUT when shifting easy and slow itll go in just fine.

So im pretty sure i need new cables, but im wanting to post to get more feedback. Because the cables are expensive and they are a pain to switch.

I know that people usually have issues with that bracket, and that's what i originally though happened.

Have you popped the shift boot off really quick to verify the interior connections are good?

Yes, under there all seems just fine.

The popping is coming from where the cable mounts into the bracket, close to the trans. That metal round part on the cable. You can actually see the cable kind of jump when it pops

I would try replacing the bushings first, with ES Bushings. It's cheap and can't hurt.

disconnect the cable on both ends then put the cable thru the motions by hand and see if you feel any binding.

Replace the cables. Something internally goes bad on them. I had a similar issue and then on shift later the cable tore completely.

Replacement of them is not hard but a PITA. The worst part is removing the two 10mm bolts that had the bracket with the cables to the firewall and then pulling them out. WEAR Gloves.

I had the same problem with going into 1, 3, and 5 gears. What i found was that the black sleeve that the actual cable travels through detached from the grommet that is at the front of the shifter assembly. What was happening is that every time I moved to the upper gears the cable would pop out of the sleeve and bind against the white plastic shifter base. Just to make sure, pull the shift boot and look at the cable sleeve just before it enters the grommets that are held in by the metal clips. I was able to fix it without replacing the cables so if that is the problem let me know.
