02 03 6spd Shifter Cables bad? HOW TO swap 04 6th gen cables! Save $$$
So my shifter cables messed up while I was at the track. I slammed it into 3rd and it felt bad, and didn't go into 3rd. Something happened to the cable, see http://forums.maxima.org/5th-generat...le-issues.html
The 5.5 gen maxima shifter cable p/n - 34413-5Y700 it cost $200-280 from the dealer. It only fits 5.5 Max.
The 6th gen shifter cable p/n 34413-8Y000 it cost $93-??? from the dealer.
The 6th gen cable is also in, the L31 Altima
With the 6th gen cables at 1/2 the cost i figured its time for some actual info on this issue.
There are a few differences in the cables.
1- main cable is longer by bout 2 inches
2- the end that goes to the transmission lever is a bigger diameter (5.5 shifter bushing does not work)
3- mounting plate to fire wall is totally backwards
That's it!
To install these-
I cut the mounting bracket rubber down the middle. Flipped it around and then put silicone on it so its water tight.
I had to remove the cover that goes over the ecu harness going into the fire wall, the main cable was rubbing the end and it would of eventually rubbed through the cable jacket. I'm going to cut the cover or put some rubber hose on the end soon just because I want things complete like they should be. I will update thread!
That's pretty much it, if you want to use aftermarket shifter cable bushings the trans side needs to be 6th gen cable size (larger).
Review after install:
Cables have been in for a week or so, shifting is perfect. No shifting issues! Ive slammed it into 2ed and 3rd a few times and its perfect.
