That's what I tell customers when they ask if the new y-pipe is hard to install - I say, "nope, the new one is easy to install, your challenge will be to remove the old one without a torch and an air chisel!"

I have a torch and an air chisel. What is the air chisel used for?

Any pointers for the rest of us? Did you have to extend the O2 wires?
I'm still waiting for mine to arrive. I hope to get after it next weekend.
Hmm, spacers should be here by then too. I've got some work to do.

Perhaps a new thread for the install and impressions would be a good idea.

I have to vouch for this. If you don't want headers, I say get this. Out of the minimal mods I have.... this is the mod I feel by the butt dyno. I don't really smash on the city streets so I dont know about that. But on the highway I can tell it is def pulling harder. From 65 it scoots, from 80 it scoots

After seeing people say this is not a good mod for 5.5 I say bull****, thanks to Spock and Brian and everyone for putting this together.

Yes.

I thought I was going to have more time than I did. I work 60+hrs a week and have a family. Doesn't leave much left.

All I got left is to put the front exhaust manifold on, front cat, cooling fans, 02 wires and the y pipe. Waiting on gaskets and an 02 sensor to come in.

Maybe this weekend

How goes the installs? Any of you gut your pre-cats as part of the process?

I wimped out on the install. I jacked her up and had a close look. I removed the heat shield, (had to cut the bolts off with a grinder), and then determined that there's no way the nuts are coming off the main cat. They'll have to be cut off and the studs drilled out. I'm not into laying on my back for an hour under the car spitting out rust and filings.
My mechanic is installing it next Wed.
My spacers arrived today, so I'll man up and install them this weekend.

That's the easy part.

The fun part is removing the cats to put new ones in.

The "fun" part is where between the y pipe, new cat-back, and the resonator to replace the last cat are too long to allow the exhaust to function

Resonator is going out to get an 1" removed from it and rewelded.

Since there doesn't seem to be many pics of the ypipe, I thought I'd post a couple.
