Has anybody ever gotten a ticket for running no catalytic converter? if so, how was it dealt and what were the penalties? If you know of someone that has received a ticket, let me know as well
in California it is a ticket for polluting the air and that is a $2500 ticket plus a car tow my friend

Dang, does that include the pre-cats or just the main cat? Considering how anal CA is, it's probably safe to assume the same applies to the pre-cats too...

its weird
you only need one cat to pass but its illegal to delete cats

for the more higher profile vehicles, cops can just look under the car and see if theres a cat underneath. as long as the main cat is on, you'll be fine. precats wont run you into trouble (ie the ones in the y-pipe). i doubt a cop is gonna look under my maxima considering its not as high profile as say a fixed up civic/rsx/integra/240sx. plus i aint blowin black smoke out my tail pipes rich as fawk.

im taking off my test pipe as soon as I put my straight pipe back on because if I do get pulled over for being too loud (probably gonna happen) I don't want him/her to look under and see test pipe instead of a cat...so wanna buy my test pipe

personal experience or know of someone who received a ticket?
buddy of mine got caught for being cat less. you shouldn't get bothered if its just a speeding ticket or something. He got busted in a street race and they checked under everyone's car and hood and yeah.

It would be illegal modification of an emissions control device, misdemeanor in Cali I believe, and requiring a big fine or in extreme cases the cop may ask for a tow, though unlikely ( I may be wrong)

or you can always get one of these allflow non-cats and not go through all the trouble of doing it yourself
I can't believe I haven't seen this type of thing before, I think it can fool most people

You can SMELL a car running without any catalytic just by following one. It's night/day difference in smell.
Why bother unless you are out for the highest HP number with a TURBO. IMHO I don't think it's worth the small amount of hp and the fart can sound unless you have a track car.

Yes. This is California; don't fukk with major emissions control devices. (Even if somehow they were not to spot the very obvious missing cat in a visual inspection) I do not think you can write a catalyst ticket off, even if you reinstall it.
Not worth it to delete the cat. Reinstall that sh!t, there's no point on a bolt-on maxima.
The fact you do not have a catalytic will cause you to fail the check automatically if they observe it (tampering). You WILL NOT PASS the sniffer portion of it without a cat, if they even ran it.

Doesn't matter. In CA the CARB has convoluted the laws so much to the point that even if you made your vehicle more efficient and cleaner by removing/editing/redesigning the smog equipment on a vehicle it would still be deemed as illegal.
Think about it this way, have you found it strange that E85 and Biodiesel are not legally available here in CA? That's because it's outside the norm for CARB. The same goes for installation of alternative fuel kits to convert a vehicle to Propane or Natural Gas.

Well that's just obvious, plus most people who would do this type of thing either have a "Friend" or will just bolt the cat back in.
Main thing you will need to worry about is those drive-by emissions stations they put up on on-ramps to the freeway. As Chunger said the smell of a non-catted exhaust is pretty blatant and will still linger after the car is shut off.
As for the fine I just spent 10 minutes looking for what it is and all I saw repeatedly was "In the thousands". Personally, I wouldn't do it. I don't think it's worth the hassle.
get a cat installed and show the judge it always had it. did this with exhaust, tint, and clear corner lights. cops arent the expert and they're too busy writing other tickets. test your luck.
