I got pulled over in pleasanton a few nights ago for speeding. They were 2 cops in their car. One of them said I was doing 90-95 mph, and he wrote down 95 mph on the ticket. Should I just admit guilty in court hoping they would cut it down into half price ( I heard they give you 50% off if you admit guilty ) or fight it? What is the risk of fighting the ticket? Thanks for any input guys.
did they get you on a radar gun? or is it just an estimate? because if they were sitting and thought you were going 95 they would have to go 200+ to catch up and actually clock you which is imposible. If you can prove that you couldnt have been going 95 than fight it. If not than dont, no point...
No, they did not get me by radar gun, he estimated between 90-95.

Thanks for all the tips guys. I'll probably just admit guilty (hoping they would cut it into half fee) eventhough I still don't know how fast I was going downhill, then take the traffic school and move on.
NOOOO.. DEFINITELY FIGHT IT.. The same thing happened to a friend of mine just two weeks ago. She got hit with a 95 or a 98 in a 65 zone. She figured, "well, im gunna get fined either way, and it's just more effort to fight it, and either way I can't take traffic school, so I'll just plead guilty and deal with it." Well, she was flat out WRONG. Not only did she get a huge fine, but she also had her licence suspended for 30 days on the spot (they physically took it in the court room).
They are MAJORLY cracking down right now on speeders. Aparently, some people are getting the same penalty as her for getting nailed at a mere 85+ mph! It's rediculous.
Try TicketAssassin.. If you search google, you might be able to find the good bits of it in the cache so you dont have to pay for it. I'd say the chances of them lowering your fine are probably about equal to some beaurocratic hiccup causing you to get out of it or at least a reduced penalty. Try the radar gun speed calibration argument or something. Although, the best advice right now is to get a lawyer, they are cheaper than you think.
My $0.02
Edit: Just noticed two things. I think you have an even better shot since you didn't get nailed by radar. And second, don't assume that you can take traffic school if you get ticketed @ > 85mph. It varies by county.
man in cali judges are freakin strict as all he!l. and since you're going over 80 it's a misdemeanor so it'll be easily over three hundred dollars AFTER you plead guilty (otherwise if yuo fight it and lose its a sh!tload but a lotta times the judge will feel bad for you if you fight and lose and most people lose mind you and they discount it anyhow) i wouldnt fight it though, no one ever wins unless the cop doesnt show up
