Advise on 235/55R17's

After studying the tire comparison chart, I've realized that this size tire is a bit bigger than stock, but haven't seen anybody actually use this particular size. I came across a set of Goodyear Eagle RS-A's (brand new), the seller was asking $250 OBO. I'm not lowered, I am however running aftermarket wheels, but they are OEM spec. I currently have RE92's (stock size) on the car, and with them still having 1/2 the tread left, they suck! With winter starting to close in, I'm needing something with better snow and wet weather handling. I was stuck in my drive a few times last winter because my car wouldn't move.

Any advise running this tall of a tire?

whats the size difference? is it just the sidewall? more information would be preferred to get a better response. but in general terms of running a taller tire, your odo will be slightly off as the tire will be slower than your OE sized tire. meaning each rotation will take longer. if its a one size diff, the changes will be insignicant but i would recommend getting the exact tire size.

iv ran 235/45/17 for the past few years with no problems. 45 is the lowest i would recommend. you'll be fine with the 55's

yea you will be perfectly ok with the 55s. If you are not lowered then you dont have anything to worry about.

However, Goodyear Eagle RS-As are the most CRAPPY `all season` tires you can buy. I had them on my OEM 17s when I first got my maxima in 2005 and in the winter I got stuck countless times...In the wet the RS-As are great...but in the snow I dont think you can buy a worse `all season` tire

did everyone ever try some 215 60 17 snow tire? would it fit?
on oem 02 se mags.

It would probably work but why would you wanna do that? I mean if you have the tires already and are just lookin to run them in the winter I guess it would be ideal. As long as you don't have a drop they could probably work but you might want to research this since i'm not positive.

it is only for winter ,im in québec canada so there is a lot of snow here during winter...

past summer i was on 235 45 17,... next year im gonna put my 18" enkei

and by the way ,i just install the 215 60 17 toyo observe go2 plus,
they are pretty big,but not to much i still have enought clearence.
They feel a little bit like big ballon on the dry but i think they gonna be perfect in big snow,after all its a winter tire...

the reason why i put this size is because a 215/55r17 or 225/50r17 cost up to 215$ can each tire ..and the 215/60r17 cost me 142$ each brand new....so do the math

RS-As are a terrible tire. No matter what deal you're getting on them, you'll be supremely disappointed. They are horrible.
