Light Weight Wheel Recommendations
I've been hitting the track with my 18" Chrome wheels now going on my third season. (Mods in sig) And I'm getting closer to to possibly cracking into the 13sec (granted it would be the high 13s if I can even do it) but I'm sure my current wheel situation isnt' helping sooo....Not know much about wheels I put the question out there for you wheel gurus to recommend a set of lightweight rims that might work for my 05 SE.
I'm not interested in 19"Nismos since the rubber is so expensive and I think that going with a bigger wheel may be the wrong direction. I was thinking some sort of 17" but then again I don't know so I am opening it up for suggestions. Thanks

Thanks guys! I got some good stuff to check out.
Question: why 17x10?
and Puppetmaster - I guess I'm not limiting it to 17s I just thought that was the best option, if there is another way then let me know what you think.
I also found this wheel weight chart:

Yeah, sorry for the confusion, the 17" comment was to Dan, but those same wheels even in 18" would be much lighter than average anyway, as you've probably already discovered. Obviously, if you go down to 17", they'll be even lighter.
Btw, here's another one - Volk RE30 18x8 16.5 lbs:

Oh yeah, I could never justify getting them new, but once in a while a used set will pop up for around $2000 or even slightly below that. Not on this forum of course; it's hard enough selling $300 OEM rims to us cheapskates...
Btw, FWIW, a vendor on my350z.com priced the RE30s for me at $2800 shipped, so that's more like $700 per rim. Not that it hurts much less.

15x6.5 4th gen sawblade 19.77lbs.
This is the wheel i have on my car. looks like I could really use a lighter wheel, but it goes to show that overall weight is not the only factor. It's also about how far from the center of the wheel the weight sits. The 16" SEs I had before were actually lighter, but they sapped more power because of their diameter, even though over all tire diameter was identical.
For example: Picture you are holding a 30lb weight close to your body. You would still be able turn yourself around quickly. Now picture doing this with a 30lb length of lumber 20 feet long. It would slow you down dramatically even though it weighs the same. Long story short: Smaller diameter wheel=better acceleration.

Was kind of settling in on the Kosei even though the two valves was a little different but now I'm not sure on the offset.
Here were the specs from Tire Ract on what they said would fit for a 17 x 8
Offset: 35mm
Backspacing: 5.87"
Bolt Pattern: 5-114
Rec. Tire Size: 225/55-17
Weight: 15.5lbs.
Then the 18x7.5?
Offset: 36mm
Backspacing: 5.63"
Bolt Pattern: 5-114
Rec. Tire Size: 245/45-18
Weight: 16.0lbs.
1mm difference.
This guy has 17x9 http://www.iwsti.com/forums/wheels-t...ken-rt615.html
17x8 or 17x9 or 18x7.5 What do you think is better?

Rota Slipstream 15x6.5 comes in 5x114.3 lug pattern for us max dudes, a set can be had for less than $500 new, and they weigh 11.9lbs. This is what I'm leaning towards. Best bang for the buck I've found yet.

Apollo: Im thinking the same as you for the track. Im looking for the lightest 17x8 rim I can find that will clear my 300zx calipers. A smaller diameter tire will give you different gearing for better acceleration. The 17s make look really small, but for track use only, i think they are the best due to lighter weight. Also, 17s are cheaper to buy and tires are much cheaper than 18s or larger.

Okay what are your opinions and recommendations on these 350z 17in wheels.
The fronts are 225/50, 8.5", weigh 42 pounds
The rears are 235/50, 9", weigh 48 pounds
Is that considered light weight?

where'd you get the weights for those, the 42 is actually pretty light, as in lighter than I'm inclined to believe. If you assume 25lbs for the tire which is very very average for that tire size, that's only 17lb for an OEM 17x8.5" wheel... that's super light and if they really are that light I may have just found a new track wheel... It's also hard to reconcile a full 6lb difference between the fronts and rears, with a tire that is only a tiny bit bigger and a wheel that is only half an inch wider. the rear wheel weight seems pretty accurate to me, front wheel weight seems really light.

Agreed, I got that weight from the guy selling them. I am assuming he weighed them but I guess if I show up to buy them, I should bring a scale.
Look at the widths, it doesn't match anything listed on this website. The guy says they are his factory350z wheels.
This site http://www.350z-tech.com/zwiki/Wheel_Specifications has several weights listed.
If I go with a scale and they are that weight then you could be right, I may just snag them up. $250 as you see them. It really is a pretty good deal. Do you think I would have any offset issues?
