clear coat or anodize?

on bare aluminum wheels, should you clear coat the wheel or anodize it? i don't really understand what the difference is. well, i mean, i wikipediad it and i understand what anodizing is, but what i mean is, what is the difference in how the wheel will look?

that's a pretty general question.

clear coat over metal in what state vs. what color anodize?

what look are you going for?

for bare aluminum you will want clear coat/clear powder coat. anodizing creates a reflective finish.

To protect it you would want clear coat. Which is obviously clear, and anodized like ^ he stated is a color finished product with a reflective see through finish

Examples:

Clear

Anodized

You get the idea.

350z track wheels, i stripped the godawful bright blue and orange off and i really like the look of the bare aluminum, it goes better with my car than silver.

right now on my car i have machine-faced aluminum with clear coat. looks really good IMO, so i'm going for something similar with the tracks.

When I used to have a Accord, I had these rims that weren't chrome, but alloys. Do you figure those were covered with a clearcoat? They were called QT Alloys. I liked alot of there styles. Anyone know if they're still in business?

If you plan on painting the rims, I would say powdercoat would be a better option.
