Valve stem recall/alert
Dill Air Controls (the latest name for a company which has been around over half a century) has issued a recall/alert for several million bad valve stems. These were made in China (of course), and are prone to premature cracking and loss of air. Several accidents and one fatality have been traced to these stems failing.
These recalled stems have been used by many tire sales outlets/stores during the last few years. I bought a set of tires at Discount Tires 17 months ago, and recently received a letter warning that these stems should be replaced immediately. I took my car to their store, and Discount Tires replaced these stems and rotated and balanced my tires free of charge.
As Dill is the leading supplier of valve stems, anyone who has bought tires in the past two years might want to check with the place you bought the tires and find out if your stems are part of the recall. If unsure, check your stems very carefully every month or two for any crack, however small.
