I have been reading through archived threads all morning and all night last night and a lot of the reviews i've read, the tires are apparently discontinued (a lot of the threads are 2+ years old.
I currently have the stock 17 SE wheels on my 2000 SE but my tires have worn out (BF Goodrich Traction T/A 235/45/ 17). These tires have lasted me a little over 60k which has impressed me considering the traction. Now I have the opportunity to pick up a set of MINT g35c 18's so i'm in the market for a 235/40/18 and here is my question: Which ones will last the longest? I currently ride on S-Tech/Illuminas (terrible I know, i'm going to be switching to a little more modest spring very soon). I have pretty much fallen out of the performance spirit over the last year and a half or so, so basically the ONLY thing I care about for my new tires is tread life, with noise being 2nd most important. I live in Florida so snow is not a factor, and it doesn't rain a whole lot either. What will be the longest lasting 18inch tire for the best value?
I hate being cheap on something like tires but i'm a full time college student so I can't afford to spend $200 a tire. I'm hoping to get something in the $125-$130 MAX, cheaper than that would be nice though. While the car is getting new tires it will be getting new cv axles and a new wheel bearing on the front passenger as well. Thanks in advance.

I was concerned with the same thing when I was looking for tires. But you must realize that low profile tires don't usually get a good treadwear rating. With that said, the Pirelli P-Zero Nero was the best that I had read about at the time (about 1 year ago). You might find another one better now, so you gotta check websites like tirerack.com. To try and find a low profile tire with a cheap price and great treadwear will be a hard find bro, unless you come up on a deal, which is highly unlikely for these tires.
God bless with the search though. I would suggest you take some time, stockpile some cash, and go and spend good money on some tires. You also must realize that you will have everything riding on them. Literally.
I just put a new set of G35's on the car (pics will come soon) and I wrapped them in 225/40-18 Pirelli's. Go with a good tire for good life mane, 'cause trust me, you get what you pay for.
i spent hours on tire rack and will read one review that says "oh the tires sucked they only lasted 25,000 miles" and another review will say "great tire, got 40,000". I know you get what you pay for but like I said I could absolutely care no less how good the performance is on these. I went to the track 4 or 5 times on these BF traction ta's, and they still lasted over 60,000.. only going an inch bigger in wheel diameter I should be able to find several tires that will last me at least 45,000 miles.

any tire with a high treadwear rating will do. if you need just any regular long lasting tire with little performance and low price, just pick whatevers. at least get low end name brand such as yokohama, falken, bridgestone etc.
You will gain tread life as you drop down performance categories. Lower speed ratings generally translate into higher tread life. Try to get treadwear rating of 400 and above if you want longer tread life. I generally don't put a lot of stock in the tire mileage reports in the reviews on tirerack, since it's tough to tell when each user considers a tire shot. Some replace at 2/32 of tread, some at 4/32, etc., plus their wear is influenced a lot by how well people maintain their cars (alignment and so on) and drive them.

I will piggyback on 06 by 6's comment. Different brands have different treadwear standards. Thus, a 400 treadwear rating on one tire may mean something different to another brand. But I do usually go for the highest rating. I look at it like it can't be THAT much different. If I get a good rating, they will probably last for what I want to do...
For a reasonably priced tire try either Nankang NS-2, Nexen N3000, or even the General Exclaim UHP (but the treadwear is not that great).
I've had the General Exclaim UHPs on my car (235-40-18) for 3 years now and I have 45k km / 28k mi on them and they are toast..performance is good but the treadwear is not that great
Hey fellas, I am about to change tires - I currently have Goodyear Eagles on, but I don't think I would buy new ones, they wear down a bit quicker than most other tires. I was told about Nexen. I am thinking of getting the Nexen N7000 series. Anyone have these or know anyone with these tires on their 04 SE ? Would like to know about tire noise, wear and ride. Tire size 245/45/18 - Also, I prefer to use All-Season tires.
to the OP, the yokohama Avid V4/H4 all have a 500 treadwear rating which is the highest I have seen. I have these on my 17" oem's now and they are quality, smooth, quiet, good performance tires. Not sure if they have the 18 size you would like, but if not you could try the W4, which is a nearly identical tire and has a 400 tread rating and a larger size selection.
