Should i paint the whole wheel?

I recently bought a set of Mille Miglia 18x8's that were badly curb rashed and the finish is coming off in some spots becuase of a polish that was used by an auto detailer. (says the last owner) I am fixing the curb rash on all the wheels now and when i respray them . . . should i just paint the whole thing. How reliable is a DIY rim paint job?

Here's some shots of the finish:

paint the entire wheel so it matches the rest. thats a no brainer. reliability of a rattle can DIY paintjob isnt gong to be the best in the world but can be pretty decent. make sure you take your time. strip all the original coating off with paint stripper, then prep, primer, and paint. light even coats will come out the best.

you really think i should strip all the old finish off these wheels? I was told by a few people i should leave it on there and just rough it up so there's still a factory coat baked on

its not going to match no matter how much you try blending. do it once, do it right. dont half-ass it. like i said, strip all coating off and repaint. then put as many clear coats as needed for gloss and protection.

better yet, take it to a wheel shop and have them refinish it for you. average cost for all four would be around $500.
