Nexen N7000 / AVID H4S / HTR+ / Avon Tech M550 / ECSTA ASX

I'm getting new tires for my 95 SE riding on 17x7 wheels. Riding on TOkico's HP kit (blue struts, matched Tokico lowering springs).

Driving style is a bit spirited but nowhere near aggresive. Not tracked/autocrossed. A lot of highway driving (70+ mph).

Tire size has been decided as 225/50R17 (1st) or 225/45R17 (2nd) depending on availability.

I'm leaning towards:
1) Yokohama AVID H4S (not V4S) < $450 installed. 500 AA A
2) Kumho ESCTA ASX < $400 installed. 420 AA A
3) Avon Tech M550 < $490 installed. 360 AA A
4) Sumitomo HTR+ 360 AA A

However, I recently came across the Nexen tires, especially the N7000. Can't find reviews on it but the price is very low, $325 for the tires delivered from eastcosttires and the thread pattern is pretty decent looking.
Ebay link.

Priorities:
1) good wet/dry, reasonable snow/ice grip is expected for an all-season to handle Michigan winters
2) good treadwear ... looking for them to last about 36000 miles or so (3 years)
3) reasonably quiet, especially highway driving

Toyo Proxes 4 was a consideration but considering the lack of need for an aggresive dry tire, but the lower treadwear of 300 AA A is why I am not considering it. It is also the reason why the Avon Tech M550 and the HTR+ are the last on my list.

Appreciate any feedback, thanks!

Edit: Falken ZE512's are not on the list as the general consensus has been that it's a great tire when new but loses its traits quickly as the miles rack up. So no go for me.

i have avid v4's and they are not to good in the snow...actually rather scary, soft sidewals too...but great wet and dry traction.

Everything I've read leads me to believe that they're surely better than the Bridgestone Turanza EL42's I am running on now I hope.
Tirerack survery EL42

The V4s and the H4s have a similar, if not identical, thread pattern. I know the V4 has a higher load/speed rating but the H4s should suffice for my driving style and needs. I do realize that these will not give me true winter grip but for an all-season ... I am expecting them to rank up there.

I am tempted to try out the Nexen N7000 but the treadwear rating on those (360 AA A) would probably guarantee a replacement in a little over 2 years. Not something I want to do. So yeah, leaning towards the AVID H4s unless I'm convinced otherwise.

Isn't treadwear rating almost incomparable between manufacturers since there's no consistency in the method of measurement?

I had the HTR+ and loved them. They wore unevenly, wearing to the bars in the middle and leaving a good amount of tread on the outsides. Still though, I got almost 40k miles out of them and they gripped like champs until the day they were replaced. I keep thinking about getting them again, but the stories I've heard about excessive wear (10k mile life) and bubbles make me wary - went through a set of 512's and Proxes4 since then, and will end up getting Proxes4 again. Damn I loved those HTR's.

after speaking to quite a few people, reading reviews, and asking tirerack and discouttiresdirect salespersons, i've decided to try the kumho ecsta asx's.

as a person with a 3 month old child that drives on wet roads often and keeps handling in mind, i LOVE the tires and they are VERY well priced.

RE: Nexen tires........I just got a quote for $575 out the door for 245/45/18 where all my other quotes have been above $850. I'm not sure why they are so much less than all the rest of the tires out there.

Found this older thread: http://forums.maxima.org/showthread....=245%2F45%2F18

Nexen seems to be getting good reviews

Ecsta ASX kinda suck. I've had 5 brands of performance tires and the Ecsta don't last as long as the treadwear would lead you to believe, the grip is subpar and the looks are just okay. I had Nitto 555s before and they were superior in every way and lasted nearly 32k as well. I'll be glad when the ASXs wear out and get replaced. I saved a little money, but it wasn't worth it. That's my .02

I live in AZ and had them both through some rough monsoons. I drive normal most days, spirited when I'm alone

Having tried the Avons before, they were great in dry and wet. Never tried them on snow or ice.

Did you have problems with balancing or flatspotting? What did you replace the Avons with, and why?

i am running Nexen tires on my wife's 2000 Maxima SE and she loves them. they handle the road, and are very quiet.

we just had a round of ice and snow here and she had no problems driving in it.

the best part was the price, if i remember correctly four, mounted and balanced was under $300

i plan on putting them on all of my Nissans as they need it.
