I usually keep a pretty regular check on my tire pressures for safety. I'd hate to go do some playful driving on dangerously low tire pressure.

I had new tires installed about 1½ mouths ago. I check them about 2 weeks ago and the drivers rear tire was down to 18psi. I usually keep them at 30.

Well I was pumping gas today and noticed that the tire looked very low. It was at 8psi.

Obviously I instantly pumped it back to 30.
Do you think I incurred any long term damage to the tire?


Also, what is a good way to get rid of a slow leak like this? I guess I could try the Fix-A-Flat Foam, but does that work on slow leaks. Also will it kind of weigh my tired down?

Or should I just take it to a tire shop and have them look at it?

What part of go to a tire shop do you not understand? You should also be running your tires at more than 30psi. My car calls for 33F/32R and I'm currently running the tires at 35F/34R.

Talk to the tire shop about that as well!

A 4th gen i think the suggested is 32psi all around or something like that. I normally just do 35 all around reguardless of what the specs are. My left rear looses psi every now and then but thats because i have a nail actually in the tire. And it would be more dangerous to pull it out then let it be. As of now i loose about 2 psi a week.

you had new tires install a month ago, and they leak that bad?

Sounds like a very poor install job. you shouldnt be losing air.

Go back to the place that did the install and complain.

Turns out I had a small nail towards the inside of the tire. I had this plugged.

But it teaches a good lesson. Always do a hand check of your tires before doing any playing around.

Just a few days ago my tires where at good pressure and I did a couple 120 runs in my car. Now that I think of it that nail was probably in the tires then and just hadn't allowed much air to escape yet. However, that could have been a major problem at those speeds with a nail in the tires. Thank god nothing went wrong. Just a warning to others... do more than just the eye check.
