I am going to finish building my built engine. I was wondering which swap I should do though. Should I do the FULL VQ35 Swap with original timing kit and full harness or should I do the VQ30 Timing Kit?
I had my mind set on the VQ30 just for the fact that I could use the e-manage ultimate to tune. But recently saw that a PNP UTEC harness for the 5.5 gens is being made.
Which would prove to be more reliable for some serious HP/TQ Numbers? My worry with the VQ30 swap is that the cam adapters will snap with my setup and I do not want to have to worry about re-doing this all the time. Is this a random flaw?
Thanks!
JP

I am aware of this, I was just wondering as far as reliablity for High HP which would be the better of the swaps or if they are about equal for reliablity.

My present 3.5 uses the StephenMax cam adapters, and it's been down the 1/4 mile many times. You must be sure that you tighten the cam bolts to factory specs when assembling the cam timing parts. I have heard of one instance of a cam adapter failing.
My next built engine is using machined 3.0 cam gears (by StephenMax) instead of the original adapters. Ain't no way these gears will ever fail.
Im also doing the 3.0 timing 3.5 build. I have thought about doing the full swap in the future. If you can go with the full 3.5 swap you should do so.
I say this because you will be able to control the vtc's ( more low end)etc and the 3.5 harness can be used for many different standalones, piggy backs etc.
All im trying to say is you will make more power & have more options to tune if you do the full swap.

Why would the cam adapters snap? there has only been a single case which I consider a freak accident and perhaps was user error (we would never know). I have a built 3.5 with 3.0 timing, using the EU to tune, currently at 17psi of boost(turbo). you'll be fine with the adapters, just make sure you tighten the bolts properly to spec.

JP, just do the 3.0 timing. It is easier IMO and you shouldn't see any problems from it. The only issue I have had is spinning a rod bearing but I was at 7200+ rpms. Where's my call? You know we could get this done in NO time. Call me if you got any questions man. I'll pm you my number incase you don't have it.
