problem in first gear under boost

Hi there, i've just done a RMT for my maxima, and i've run in to a problem

it feels like my car is "missing" when i first get on boost.. but only in first gear. in second gear boost comes on strong and fast, but in first just as it starts seeing 1 / 2 psi, it feels like the engine is hickuping, i can only describe it as what it felt like when i had a coil pack go bad. This seems to happen a lot more when the car is cold. if the car is warmmed up it rarely happens, but if the car is cold it will happen almost all time, but again, i've only noticed the issue in first gear.

Could this be a problem with my tranny? i'm not sure exactly what to check...

BTW, i'm a 96maxima Auto.

You shouldn't be flooring it when the engine is cold at all. Alway let your car fully warm up. That's ofcoursr if you want your engine to last long. In me car when I don't drive for long time or reset ecu , ahter I go for a drive I can feel major lack in power in first hear then suddenly boost comes it out of no where. After driving for a while it goes away. Most likely its the ecu learning the new airflow .

I'm not flooring it, i've got a quite small turbo on my car so boost starts coming on as early as 2300rpm.

With a small turbo you will not get a lot of boost in first due to the lack of laod on the engine this is all it is but it will be fine in 2nd 3rd 4th

Actually its the opposite. With a smaller turbo you will get boost in first so the issue might be air fuel or timing. At that early rpm and not in open throttle there is a lot! Of timing. So boost is not going to be the. Best idea to have there.

Perhaps your intermittently running lean in first! Maybe the lack of boost in first gear is causing a rich afr, but once boost starts to kick in it leans out to where it should be. What are your AFR's in first gear when it happens?

^ Yea, your going to need to monitor your air fuel. because it can also be the opposite, that its running very lean when boost comes in somehow, then richenss up after. Its all guessing untill you monitor it, if you dont have a gauge or a way to see your afr then i strongly suggest you dont go into boost until you get a device to read afr
