VQ30 oil burning?

I have heard of a few VQ30s burning oil, but I hear much more about the VQ35s burning oil. From your experience with FI, does the VQ30 have a tendency to burn oil? Any known difference on this between the DE-K and DE?

The Vq30de is a great engine, it does not burn oil like the vq35's. It all depends what the millage is on the vq30de and how it was treated. I would say the newer de-k engines would have a less chance of burning oil since there newer...but i might be wrong.

Mine has 289k on it and i beat the hell out of it and it does not burn oil.

Are you suggesting/asking if there is more of a tendency to burn oil once boosted??

Boosted VQ30 here, no oil burning issues.

Not to start the VQ30/VQ35 debate again, but at work, on average i see tons of VQ35's that burn oil, especially on the R50 Pathfinders. They seem to be the worst for sludge build up and oil burning, or perhaps there owners just lack maintenence the most.

Not many VQ30's end up thru my shop anymore, 98% of the maxima owners in my area take there cars to mr lube and dont care about there cars..

Hey JClaw, when I pulled out my DEK it had 100 000KM and would not take a drop of oil. I would say the DEK is probably better suited for boost, but I know there is tons of DE with boost out there, but if you pay attention to details you will find out few thing that leads to DEK like the bigger wrist pin and piston on the DEK. I had my block to be bore 20mm oversize and use oversized Arias piston. If you wanna go for a DE, I have a nice set of Arias piston & ring that I would let you for 250$ in the local currency instead of US. If you'd like to see it in person I'd be happy to have you come over here if you want.

Thanks but if I ever boost my old max I'd practice tuning and getting used to a turbo on a stock junkyard VQ30, and I would build a VQ35 instead of building a VQ30.
