s/c fmic help

This is just a basic inquiry to you gents....

I have searched ebay far and wide and i cant seem to find a fmic that has 3" end tanks, 6" or so high and a 25"-30" overall length for my setup.

I have found 29"x6"x3" but those have all had end tanks of 2.25-2.5 and thats a bit small.

Thanks for any and all help.

Its going to be really really hard to find an intercooler in the 6" height area that has 3" inlet/outlets.
Most that are at that height or under will have either 2.50 or 2.25. Ive only seen a couple that were actually 2.75
Some places will custom make you one with the 3" inlet/outlet but there $$.
The sizing listed is usually the LxHxW of the intercooler. Inlet/outlet is usually listed in the details.
All the 12" high intercoolers will have the 3" inlet/outlets.
If you find one that has the 2.75 go with that. Run 2.75 from the blowers outlet to the inlet of the 2.75. At the outlet of the IC you can use a 2.75 to 3" coupler and go 3" piping up to the MAF and TB.

Check with PWR. If they don't have one, they should be able to make you one.

They are just a few miles away from me so let me know if you need help.

P.S. Bigger isn't always necessarily better.

The bumper support is removed if you go above the 6" height.
I saw one member who notched his out but I dont remember how high his IC was.

NICE, Thats the ideal size to me. Ive been looking for one of that size but I thought 6" would be just under the support. I had purchase a small intercooler a while back, I belive it was around 4" in height. It fit well under the support but it had a 2.5 inlet/outlet that killed my boost going from the 3" piping to the 2.5 and then back to 3".
Id like to get an intercooler with the 2.75 inlet/outlet and do like I mentioned earlier. Run 2.75 piping from the blowers outlet to the inlet of the intercooler and then run a 2.75 to 3" reducer at the outlet of the IC with to the 3" piping going into the engine bay.

one last question, are you guys matching the possible flowrate of the blower to the fmic when you guys do your setups?

Based on what I've read over the years, I'd say most get intercoolers based on price, looks, and ease of purchase. Very few choose the correct size properly (or something close to it), let alone even know how to size it correctly based on CFM etc etc.

intresting, i've found a few in the size i want but they seem pretty low in cfm ability so i might go for the bigger one that can move more air. but i'll keep on looking.

I went back and dug up info on the one I had purchased and it was 28x6x2.5
This is how it looked,..

Looks very similiar to the 6" ones going on Ebay which is where I got it...

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/FMIC-...spagenameZWDVW

and by looking at it its about half the size of the 12" setup used by mosts..

I liked how it fit under the bumper support, but going from 3" to 2.5 and back to 3" killed my boost.

Kzoosho's intercooler looks to be in the 10" - 11" range.
