Piping Problem

Hey all,

Have a question for yah. I finally got my turbo and the intercooler just came in!! All that aside, i am having some trouble though with how i am going to create my forward Y setup. Basically, i have a Cali Spec, and with that comes the straight ended Y pipe that attaches directly to the rear manifold/header.

I have attached some pictures to further help you understand what i am talking about because it is somewhat hard to explain.

So basically, as with the Cali Y pipe which is shaped

as all of you know.

Here of course is a Fed Spec which models EVERY forward Y setup i have seen with two vertical 90* bends..

here is what my Cattman looks like as it is right now, where i would try and make the forward Y.

Here are some pictures that i found off of a maxima owners website of the difference in the CA and Fed speck Manifolds...

credit goes to : http://desertpearlmax2.homestead.com/fed_ypipe.html

Would my best bet be to just buy a fed manifold? if possible? and just replace the extra O2 sensor in the manifold to one on my "mock up forward Y"?

There in lies my problem. . How am i to create my forward y set up. Have any of you encountered this problem, and if anyone has any pictures i would appreciate it greatly!

Thanks,

Tiler

You can do a reverse Y which will rap around the rear of the motor and come up. That is how mine is ran.

Yes reverse y would be an option and just wrap the pipes good with heat wrap. That would probably be easiest. If you get the fed manifold you could just do the forward y.
Just by looking at the pics it looks like those triangle flanges are asymmetrical and that is how they were able to point the y forward instead of cutting the flanges off and rewelding the pipes. I got some pics here. forward feed turbo setup
My build thread coming soon!

thanks guys, yea of course i was planning on using less piping but it seems that doing a reverse Y will be the easiest option. Im going to keep them still open though, maybe if i get my hand on a fed spec manifold i can figures something out. Thanks for the write up as well maxgtr.

I say reverse or forward is around the same, I'd choose a path and find away of achieving good clearance and little temperature problems...maybe heat wrap if u needed to! but of course I think the forward y-pipe is the cooler one, lol.

A CA--> Fed conversion is very easy. You can also get O2 simulators from Cattman for the rear O2s.

Not anymore. Pretty recently, legislature has made it so O2 sims are illegal and have been banned. O2 sims are hard to find now.
