Supercharged/TurbochargedThe increase in air/fuel pressure above atmospheric pressure in the intake system caused by the action of a supercharger or turbocharger attached to an engine.
A friend of mine is thinking about building up his WRX and offered to sell me the turbo for cheap. It's a Mitsubishi TD04 and I was wondering if that could be used on a VQ30DE? I understand that it's recommended for 4cyl applications but I couldn't find a solid answer. I'm not looking for a lot of boost here, probably only about 7 or 8 psi. A friend of mine is getting a Mustang GT (parents are buying him one that is) and I'd love to wipe the smirk off his face.
I'm researching as much as I can about turbos and looking at different options at this point, I don't have a ton of cash but I'm willing to make it a lengthly project if need be. I'm still working on understanding compression maps, but here is a link with the TD04 listed on it.
Then a turbo for your Maxima simply isn't going to be a good option. You could gather parts over time for a rear mount setup maybe. Define "not a ton of cash."
Also, TD04 isn't specific. Tons of turbos are based around that.
I was thinking about spending about 3k or so over a period of about 6 months. I did some digging and found out that the turbo I was referring to would be a TD04L-13T
I'm not sure on the turbine size, but one website said .51 A/R

Coming soon: oovi, and wait for my tranny to blow...(starting to lust after 5spd)
Don't do it. It's a fairly lousy turbo to begin with and it's way too small for a 3.0L! You're going to be spooling at like 2000, dying off falling out of efficiency after 5000rpm, and then choking your top end.
how are we rating this compressor inefficient. If any one does their research they would see that the 6a12tt used two 16g turbos. so with a little time and real effort this would be possible. but go with two and tear the tread off the tires!!!!!! Good luck!!

he is only getting one and is probably doing a budget build

What in the world does using two 16Gs have to do with using a single 13T?
To the OP - That turbo is just plain too small. Pointless - waste of effort. Spend $250 on a used 50 trim or something if you really want to do a budget build that is worth the effort.
Thanks for the help nealoc187. I think I'm gonna do an oovi swap with injectors fuel rail and pathy tb, finish off my exhaust and do my research. Then I'll start collecting parts from there.

When you are ready. Look at Master Power Turbo's. You can pick them up for $400 to $500 new. The only thing is, they are not made to order like Garrett and Turbonetics, you have to find one to fit your needs. WHat you do is, have Turbonetics spec out a turbo for your needs and then look for a Master Power with those specs. Or look for a used turbo. I have found used turbos on dsmsource.com..
