Polished Headlights? Doin' it rite!

A buddy of mine had some headlights on his truck that looked like it's seen better days. So we went to the store and picked up a few sheets of sand paper and got to work!

Story behind it was someone else tried to polish his headlights, and left them all scratched up. Looked to me as if they used one grit of sandpaper and left it at that.

If anyone wants their headlights polished just let me know.

What they looked like before I started...

After the last grit of sand paper I applied a bit of plastic polish to one side...

One side sanded and one side polished! HUGE difference!

If I get the chance to get pics of the headlights on the truck I will. It was late and I forgot haha.

Work up from 600 all the way to 2000 and use polish.

Or start from 800 depending on the severity. This guy had pretty bad scratches that I had to get rid of so I used a lower grit to start with.

Mine are not bad but they could definitely use some polishing. What kind of plastic polish you use?

Meguiar's

Though if your headlights are oxidized with haze then you'll prob have to use sandpaper and not just polish. The polish doesn't do much on it's own.

You should try it tigershark! It's not that bad lol.

I had to use sand paper since someone already did his headlights like that and made deep scratches lol.

i actually just did this to my headlights last month..i just used 1000 grit and they turned out beautiful...but damn, it took me about an hour and a half to buff out each headlight with the portercable after wetsanding, but it was worth it. i was scared at first. oh and jess. if you like maguirars, try some detail and cleaning products made by a company named duragloss.

Shouldn't take that long, I polished it by hand and the polish took about a minute to kick in. Though I may get a polisher/buffer in the near future for work. It helps a bunch!
