^ A guy who was clueless on how to drive a MT rolled backward into me on a hill. (I wasn't on his tail...yes...he rolled 10' and hit me.) The damage is minor, and an extremely easy fix.
Next up, the Max. It's been a great car, but it's just time to get something a bit newer. I haven't gotten any pics yet. Anyway, it's pearl white, '02 (the one listed in my sig) and is around 154.5k if I remember off-hand.
I'm asking $8,350 for the car with the mods on it (CosmoRacing WAI, eBay EvoII knock-off cat-back, and Progress Lowering Springs, 3000k HID fogs), otherwise she's going to be returned to stock and sold for $8,000 O.B.O. The only thing the car needs right now is a power steering pressure hose. But that can be negotiated after someone shows interest.
As far as the Max goes, it might not be suited for an enthusiast, with the miles and all, but it'd be a great first car for a sixteen year old who just got their license. That's what it was for me. And it's still my DD, too.
I tried my best to baby both of these cars. They both have been regularly washed/waxed/detailed, as well as had fluids kept up and the engines in check.
The going price around here, surprisingly, for a lot of 5.5 gens has been between 7.5k and 8.5k. Even with higher mileage. I am flexible on the price, though, as long as someone doesn't try and lowball me.

Everyone assumes the worst with a high-mileage vehicle...
If you will be able to get more $ locally and know that's the price they are selling for I would recommend turning it back to stock and selling it for higher than you would around here on the forums.
A few months ago I went to Nissan to look at a few cars, and the guy offered me $6,500 for my car. I only have 60k miles, he knew that. So, yes I laughed and walked away.

Well, either way, I want to get both of them gone. It's listed locally, but if I get a fair enough offer from someone on the org, I'll take it. $6,500 for a trade-in from the dealer?

Meaning what? That parts will be worn, major systems are to the point where they absolutely depend on the diligent upkeep of the previous owner which may or may not be able to be verified, and performance will be at the least fatigued?

If that's from a dealer, you should expect as much. I'd rather chew my left arm off than allow a dealer to purchase my car. Yet so many people do it. I don't get it.

It just seems for some reason that if it's not coming off the stealership lot or off of the lot of a private dealer, that people begin to assume the car's been abused, unkempt and is probably broken at a mileage that high.
Same thing seems to happen if someone repaints a perfectly good car. People automatically assume something's wrong. Or at least that's what I've seen.
She's got a lot of miles, but most of them are highway...its previous owner did a lot of commuting, and so do I. Idk if that counts for anything.
If you guys really think that the price is that horribly steep, I'm inclined to drop it. I'm willing to take a hit. I have to be, obviously. I just don't want a total loss on it.
The damage on the bumper of the firebird isn't an easy fix. The right way to do that is replace and repaint...not repair. Flexible parts are hard to repair when they're cracked like that, and few shops will do the work and put a guarantee on that workmanship. Sure you could patch it up and paint it, but the whole bumper will still need to be sprayed, so you're only difference is the cost of the bumper. Probably almost $1000 to replace and repaint the whole bumper. Since labor to repair the damage is likely the same price to replace the bumper, the only difference is the cost of the part, at best guess only $300-$500 savings.
You should have had that fixed under an insurance claim. Going to be harder to sell a car that's based on flash when it's got such a blemish.

It's not that we're automatically assuming it's a heap based on the high mileage alone. Sadly, it doesn't really matter how well it's been kept up (although it's a big plus in the long-term aspect). Once a car starts really getting up there in terms of mileage, even the best maintained vehicles begin to have items that wear out (not yet break, just wear out) and it simply does not drive / perform as well as it did 50k or 100k ago. Cars in the 155k mile range are usually in need of a comprehensive tune up, and the fact remains that IN GENERAL with miles that high, you're looking at more serious problems sooner versus a newer / lower mileage car.
What options does it have? Pics?

Oh, no. I never said you guys assumed it was a POS. I'm talking general consensus of everyday buyers who don't know much about cars.
As far as for the enthusiast, like I said, it's probably not a car you'd wanna buy, all things considered. But as a first car/DD I'd like to think it'd be just fine..
I mean, I know even well-maintained cars are destined to fail after so many miles. I was looking at maintenance, like you said, from the long-term standpoint. Hopefully whoever buys the car will be happy with it for at least another 75-100k, given that they decide to take care of it like I did.
As far as options, it's just a base SE. And I'll get pics up as soon as I get a chance to wash/detail it good. It's about to rain, so there'd be no point right at this moment...
Looks to me like this is turning into more of "give Brett advice on selling his car" thread.
