Will any dirt and other crap get in the tube/shopvac causing the air filter to get more dirty which means you'll have to replace it more oftenly?

Yes, but if you have a K&N, just clean it more often...

I'd say that pretty much depends on where you stick the tube.

Seriously, if you keep the tube inside the splash guard, you probably won't get much more dirt that you would through the stock air scoop. If you place the tube outside the splash guard, however, you'll probably end up ingesting more dirt.

UMD_MaxSE has the right idea. Just check your K&N panel filter regularly for signs of excessive dirt buildup and clean it as necessary.

How did you guys stick it out? Did you use the shopvac kind, thanks for the info guys

I used flexible metal air duct tubing from Home Depot. It's easily adjustable since it can be stretched out and bent without disrupting any flow. It also stays put whichever way you flex it. On the other hand it doesn't look as nice as a shop vac tube, but I preferred the functionality to looks seeing as how it's difficult to see anyways.

I used some parts from Home Depot. My main "pipe" was aluminum dryer exhaust tubing. I fitted it to a PVC adapter and mounted it to a vented end plug of the same diameter. I drilled a hole in my plastic underpan and glued it in place. It is now pointing slightly toward the front of the car and is completely open to suck in small rodents.

Actually though, I had my filter out just the other day and it ins't any dirtier than normal. It doesn't appear that I'm taking in too much cr@p at all... which is very suprising living here in AZ with all of the dust, dirt and construction going on here (as you have already experienced).
