92 octane always! I think I speak for most people here. It's what nissan recommends, since our engines run such a high compression. THe engine has a knock sensor, so you could possibly be giving up some performance as the engine turns down the timing to prevent pinging. Just my $.02

Nissan recommends super unleaded, but it is just fine if you use regular. The engine has a knock sensor which can accomodate a wide range of fuels, provided it has 87 octane or higher (i.e. regular). I have not heard of a single case where someone used regular and it ruined their engine. There will be those replying to this thread that will tell that if you don't use super your engine will explode, your house will burn down, your wife/gf will leave you, etc....don't listen to them. And there is also absolutely no evidence that super has more detergents than regular. If you want to clean your injectors, get a bottle of Chevron Techron Concentrate once a year.

It all comes down to whether you can feel a difference using super or regular. If you can't, then use regular. You can get midgrade if you feel guilty feeling up with the cheap stuff. Either way, the Maxima will still be happy.

OK here's the deal. My 95 5 speed Max has 103,000. I bougt the car new. I used 89-90 Octane (medium w/ eathnol) until about 98,000 miles. Now I have been using 91-92 Octane and there isa difference in HP and mileage. Granted the Hp feels like maybe 15+ jump over 89 Octane and the mileage increase is about 1-2 mpg but there is a difference. I figure why mod a car and now use high octane for add'l power. The cars computer adjusts the timing with the higher octane while many competitor manufacturers don;t offer that tchnology. 87 Octane will work fine w/o problems but 91+ will yield slightly better hp and fuel economy.
