I recently upgraded my factory sound system. I added 4 Lanzer speakers, 1 Hifonics Zeus 700 Amp and one 12" sub enclosed in a sealed box. I kept the factory deck (CD player / tape player combo).

In addition to alternator whine, I get a terrible hissing sound at low volumes. The sounds there at higher volumes, but it gets drowed out by the great sound of the rest of the system. But when listening to softer music (i.e. Jazz or Classical) the hissing gets very annoying.

Is there any simply solutions to my problem. The guy who installed my sistem said a non-factory deck would cure my problem, but I would prefer to keep the factory deck for now.

Please help (again).

THANKS!

try re-grounding the amp. I have some alternator whine with my stock BOSE head unit and the Xtant. I need to try to re-ground and see if that helps. I also have heard that a new head unit will help but that's a huge pain in the @$$.

Reground everything... shortest ground cables as possible, making sure to use at least the same gauge wire as for the positive leads. That might help with the hissing.

As for the alternator whine, I've seen a 12v automotive electrical noise filter help once, don't know if it'd fix your problem, but it might be worth a try. Supposedly helps clean up some of that noise the alternator introduces.

also be sure power cables and rca cables are wired away from each other, preferably on opposite sides of the car.
