Lets talk LSD, I have an idea!!!

The 2001 SE limted Maxima's are coming off the assembly line with Limited Slip Differential. So lets start inquiring about the price. I'm guessing but I know it will be expensive. I hear a lot of fellas on the BBS wanting this modification well now it seems feasible. I dont think 2000 Maxima made large changes in architecture or design compared to 4th gen.
"So Houston we may have lift off!?!?!"

I asked a Memphis Nissan dealer "mechanic" if the new LSD would fit a '95 Maxima SE (5-spd). He said, "A differential is a differential, and should fit my car with no problem." Hmmmm... I did not have time to wait for a Service Tech to quote me for parts and labor, so I did not verify what the wrench turner told me. (The new Nissan LSD has a viscous coupling.)
FYI, Stillen offers an LSD for the 300ZX that features mechanical clutches. Stillen claims the item is less expensive than stock, more durable, and more appropriate for spirited street driving. I wonder if one could source such an item for a Maxima...? Any ideas on that?

There shouldn't be any differences
I wouldn't be shocked to find out that the LSD offered on the 2001 is the same as the one offered on the Canadian version of the SE. In fact, it might be even cheaper to get a group deal with a Canadian company to import the LSD.

Whew.............
This comes up about once a year.
The VLSD CAN be put on an automatic 3rd, 4th or 5th Gen Maxima, provided the transmission case is a VLSD case (READ: you must have a VLSD tranny).
Your best bet is to find a tranny with a VLSD tranny in it (be sure to get the axles, you will need those too), and you've got your VLSD tranny.
Can you add a VLSD to a non-VLSD tranny? In theory, yes. But the housings aren't the same, the VLSD tranny is wider at the axle housing, compared to the non-VLSD.
On a 5-spd, the differential can be changed without changing the casing. For about $1600.........
Where did I get this info?
I installed an I30t VLSD transmission in my '95 auto Maxima almost two years ago.
