Ok folks, apparently "Search" isn't working too well...

About a month or more ago there was a thread about someone modding their auto tranny control by changing one of the control lines that has an in-line resistor in it. He spliced a potentiometer in-line with the resistor, controlling (i think) valve pressure that controlled the shifts.

Can someone point me to that thread/their home page/etc?

Pt 2:
My parents have a 90 SE. On the dash near the lighter outlet, it has a switch labeled "A/T". It's a 3 position switch, center, up, and down. Up is labeled "P", down "C".

Now, I never got the chance to see what it does, but I'm thinking it was along the same lines as this mod. Center for "normal" shifting, "P" for "power" shifting (higher RPM's / rougher shifts), "C" for "comfort" shifting (lower rpms / softer shifts).

Anyone know of this? Know what it does? Can a similar mod be done to a 2k Max w/ a switch, some resistors, and hacking into the tranny control line? I'm sure this AT switch is a factory item...

Thanks

This might be the thread:
https://maxima.org/forums/showthread...=potentiometer

I think somebody said they had to disconnect it 'cause it started smoking...or something like that.

I just tried this little trick (unplugging the resistor). Tranny shifts were very abrupt, a little more than I'd like, but much better than the soft 1-2 shifts I'm used to.

I figure making the resistance 1-3 times higher may make shifts a bit better. Any thoughts on damage to the tranny by doing this?
