Need Smoother ride on 17" rims. Please help

I just bought a set of ADR S-Type 17" rims and wonder if a P225/50R17 tire will fit? I now have P235/45/17 and getting tired of the hard ride. Need more comfort. Please advise.

There are a few things that could make the ride softer:

-less air pressure
-more "comfort" oriented tires (ie, not Z/W/Y/etc rated)
-taller tires.... although this will mess up your speedo and might or might not cause fitment problems
-softer suspension.... but if you're comparing the ride between 15" and 17" wheels/tires a rougher ride is simply part of the deal.

Besides messing w/the tire pressure, you really can't do too much. It's one of the tradeoffs.

Don't lower the pressure too much. You don't want cupping.

You could try 235/50/17 tires. The taller sidewall will help cushion the ride more-and help protect the wheels in pothole encounters. FYI, 225/50/17 is the stock size the 5th Gen Max's use with 17" wheels, so they do fit.

it depends on the width of the wheel..

if it's 7" wide.. then 225 is best.. 235 fits but buldges out.. 225 will not work well on a 8" wheel though..

but you can use any profile (50 or 45). 50 will provide a softer ride.
