sports sedan recognition

Everyone here knows the Maxima is speedy.
I've also read probably 20 threads about
how nobody ever takes a Maxima serious...
it's family car or even worse I've been
told I drive a granny car! Hell... slower
Civics, Neons get more respect sometimes!

There seems to be no recognition... possibly
because the Maxima has never been in video
games, etc?

I guess I'm just slightly irritated since
you'll find PT Cruisers, Mini-coopers,
Mazda 6s, etc.. in games like GT3, Auto
Modellista.

It'd be nice if a Maxima (of any gen)
were to make an appearance in GT4

Anyone else feel the same way?

There was a Maxima in the Fast and the Furious but you are absolutely right. We get no respect because our cars are seen as dependable and sensible family transportation. Little they know that we can whoop almost any import on the road today.

almost any import? hahaha there are more imports than just integras, civics and camrys. everyone needs to be realistic about a maxima... fast? if heavily modified. but then, so is a Yugo with a big-block... i've seen one...
i, for one think, G35 is the new maxima...

i get that a lot too. everyone just assumes that i took what i could get and decided to put stuff into it to make it look fast. but when i take those people for a ride they often think differently. but a lot of my friends with LS1's, mustangs, and fast turbo cars have a lot of respect. they all say, "wow, this car was put together real nice, and for a v6 sedan it hauls major a**.

its kind of a give take relationship, on one hand, i hate when people ask what i drive and i say a maxima, and they are like "you modded your maxima??" and give a weird look. but at the same time i love when people ride in the car and are shocked at what it can do

My bad. When I said any import, I mean all the riced out Civcs, Integras, Preludes, some Eclipses, etc. I didn't mean all the super tuned imports like Supras, turboed Integras, etc. A good Maxima can hang with a lot of imports but not all of them.

When I tell people that I'm planning on modding my maxima they are like you don't mod maximas. And when I told my friend with his 6 cylinder camaro would get beat by my maxima he just laughed and said its a freakin family car. People don't understand that maximas are one of the if not the fastest family sedans on the road not including cars that are 40 grand and up, it would even give most of those a run for their money, its sad when people think civics are faster than maximas.

Why is that? You know they've got station wagons, minivans and other family type cars on GT3 but not one D*m maxima?! I always wondered about that myself. The game is fun, but I think it would be soooo much more enjoyable, if I could play with my own real life ride. It almost seems purposely done, but why? It doesn't add up ...they've got Accords, they've got Camry's....same class of car as the Max

i like the shock factor of it.. people think its slow, but it really isn't. people get impressed. also, since nobody thinks the maxima is fast, there aren't that many people that mod them (which is good). i like being unique. i only know of 1 other person in the area that mods a maxima.. but there are 1897346876348761234786234234 modded civics around.

Just for the record, that F&F maxima was nothing special. We've got NA guys who would smoke that thing. All it had was the stillen supercharger with the stock pulley, an automatic tranny, a heavy a$$ system and a lot of decals (basically). I doubt it ran much better than a low 14 in the 1/4 mile. I wouldn't be suprised if it weighed 3300 pounds.

Most of the F&F cars only look fast. The film producers make them appear faster than they are. Did they ever show anything under the hood? No, cuz they could have put a stock Maxima in the movie (with just appearance mods) and be fine.

I'd like to add that it is much better to be underestimated.. and Like you all say, unique..

Everyone's seen Devil's Advocate.. Al Pacino, right:

"Look at me -- underestimated from Day One! You'd never think I was a master of the universe, now, would you? I'm the hand up Mona Lisa's skirt. I'm a surprise. They don't see me coming."

Actually...

it weighs over 3800lbs (that's one bigass system!)

and ran a 14.6 in the 1/4 mile

who cares about the cars from F&F. F&F was the biggest joke.

There's no way that thing ran a 14.6 in the 1/4 mile.

I had the 3.25" Pulley, MEVI, and Auto, and ran 14.7.

What I heard was 15.6....

I used to feel that way every weekend when I started autocrossing.
Every event, and every year we gain a little more respect across the country.
Except for BMW 3 series there are no other 2WD 3000lb sedans standing up to us.

My favorite quote last year "that Maxima can really dance through the slalom"

Are you sure you've played the game? Minivan's? Camry's? The Accord it has is the TYPE R BTW. I don't wanna babble about a video game but the reason a Maxima will never be in video games is because it is not a sport's car. Period. They are focusing on STOCK cars that are performance oriented. The Maxima just happens to have one hell of an engine but wasn't intended to be raced. The trick though, is getting the rest of the car up to par with the VQ.

INCLUDING cars that are 40 grand and up, there's still not many sedans that are faster than a Maxima. Here's a shortlist:

S4, 540, M5, RS6, All the AMG's, Bentleys, M45, 760i, 600 series MB, Volvo S60R, Jaguar S Type R.

That's about it, and the cheapest car on that list is over $50K. Now, if you throw in a manual transmission requirement, most of that list disappears.

I personally love the fact that my car is not "known" to be fast(relativly speaking), that is one of the reasons I mod it.

I know Maximas don't get a lot of respect, but I get even less. I bet not half of the org. members even know you can get a 1st gen I30 in a 5-speed, and probably 1% of the public knows this.

The best is when your at the track with a fast Max, like Neal's, and people are shaking their heads when they get walked by a Maxima. It's all worth it then.

GS 400/430

People will say what they want, no matter you mod or not. Then if you mod your car, they got something to say about that.

DOWHATCHALIKE!!!

The majority of people don't mod. If they do it's either just rims or a system.

So speaking of Gran Turismo... Demio A-spec??? I figured it would be tough for a Maxima to make it in the game, but was there ever a Cefiro in there?

Most of the people that I talk to about my car are like "that's a quick car." Others comment on it being a V6 and then they're surprised at how quick I can launch vs. smaller and lighter imports.

So I went from the only modified Maxima in the city of Lynwood and started this trend... mostly everyone has 95/96's though.. can't afford 97-99's yet probably. Lots of altezzas and big chrome wheels driving around. In a way I feel guilty, but i don't have altezzas or chrome wheels.. and i am the ONLY one in this city with red/clear tails
