Can anyone answer a question about swapping gauge faces?
I have the black gauge faces on my gle and want to switch them to the white ones in the se...my question is can I adjust the mileage of the white gauges I put in to match my current mileage? I would appreciate any insight..thanks

Are you talking about swapping out the entire gauge cluster? I would recommend getting the reverse indiglo gauge overlays from custommaxima.com. They are white faced during the day and at night look black with blue and red numbering. I just installed them on my '97 SE and I like them a lot.

Options:
1) Buy some indiglo/reverse indiglo and you get the white face during the day, but in my (and others) opinion they are somewhat ricey (especially the indiglo). Buy em if you want.
2) Buy an SE guage cluster. These can be found on the .org or a junkyard (www.car-part.com for instance will have many). While your mileage may be off by a certain degree, you get good gauges.
I personally just did a cluster swap. My odometer is not correct, but oh well. Hope this helps.

I have done what you are looking to do. It can be SUPER simple. Run a search for posts by me for all of the experiences, but here is the gist of it:
If you want OEM SE faces, buy an OEM SE cluster. Now we all know abotu mileage problems- you have 3 choices:
1. You can switch the whole assembly and get an odometer adjustment statement. Pros- EASY. Cons- Can lower resale value because an odometer adjustment statement will eb attatched to the title.
2. You can switch the whole assembly and NOT get an odometer adjustment statement. Pros- EASY. Cons- Illegal. If the mileage is LOWER, it is definately illegal; if it is higher it is not illegal UNLESS you go back to the original cluster to sell the car. If you change the mileage on a car to a lower amount, it is odometer fraud, unless you get the aforementioned odo disclosure statement.
3. (What I did) Switch the fuel gauge, temp gauge, and tach. Actually, you REUSE only the Speedo- everything else is from the new gauge cluster.
Take the odo/speedo gauge and remove it from the GLE/GXE cluster. You will be reusing the base from your GLE/GXE. Remove the needle and the face. Take the needle and the face off of the SE. CAREFULLY drill out the 2 screw holes that the GLE has but the SE lacks (see my other post or PM/email me for more info about this). Put the SE face on your old GLE/GXE gauge base. Reuse the SE needle. This will have your original odometer in your car, thus making it 100% legal.
My homepage has pics of the results. Note that only 95-97 and 98-99.5 clusters are compatible- you must stay w/in your designated year/s group.
