Did all GLEs have ABS? Mine is a 96

I have fuses and relays, but ABS is definately not working. My brake resivior has 4 lines exiting it. I looked in the manual, and it lists ABS operation, but doesnot say whether or not my model has it. Any thoughts?

Heh, yea...I kinda wondered the question "Do all GLEs have ABS?" myself on your other flatspotted tires post. Do you have an ABS dash light/notice the yellow ABS light turn on when you power up the accessories? It'd be all the way to the left on the warning light panel.

I thought I remember ABS being kind of spotty/car-specific on all models in 95-96 from reading a post or two in the past, but since you can't search for three-letter terms, I couldn't back it up. I guess if your wheels locked up in the flatspotting incident, you most likely don't have ABS.

Put your key in your ignition and turn it to ON but don't start the car.

Do you have a light on that says ABS?

If you answer yes then you have ABS
If you answer no then you don't have ABS

Just FYI- no Maxima had ABS standard until 2000. (I think they had it grouped with the Cold Weather Pack for some wacked out reason...)

Thanks, guys. I did the turn-on thing last night after reading the manual (to see if a light lit up), but i noticed that i had some gaps. I did not know if ALL system status lights would come on. Mine does NOT have the ABS light, so I guess no ABS. Just seemed strange, with the relays and fuses in place and all...

Man, I still wish there was a way to retrofit ABS onto our cars >>

I most likely would have been able to avoid this accident I had once on the LIE in the rain.

correct, they where not standard on any models on the 4th gen., however i think they where a stand alone option that was not tied into any other packages, cause i recall seeing a base SE with ABS when i was looking for my car.

If you look under the hood, just inboard (toward center of car) and below master cylinder, you can see the ABS controller (if you have ABS). It is a silver device with numerous steel brake lines running in and out. It has a green tag on the top saying it is an ABS control unit......
