Thanks to OBD and The Org !
Short story:
I was driving down the road to my girl's place and all of the sudden, in-between gears, the max shuts down on me! Middle of the road and no power, wont even crank back up.
Luckily, I pulled over to a side road under the momentum I had left and parked. Having no idea what happened or what, I freaked. D*** Nissan I thought!
Then I calmed down and pondered for a bit. Why dont I checked the ECU? I crawled under my dash and did the ecu check (learned from the org) and found code 0802. Had to get a ride home to figure what that code meant (learned from the org). 0802 = Crank Pos Sensor.
I went back to my car and checked the wire location(learned from the org). The connection was dirty! After I cleaned it up, the Max started right up. Turns out I had started polishing the valve cover and shavings got in the upper connector. Total down time 1 hr 30 mins.
Thank you Maxima.org and OBD ! Would have never known had it not been for this forum having the wealth of information about Maximas.
I don't care if anyone replies or even reads this, I just wanted to say thanks!

BEWARE OF 0802
I had a friend of mine with an I30 which periodically did not start. No code was thrown either. After extensive trouble shooting with my multi meter we found no trigger signal at the coil packs. Tracing the circuit back and checking each device on it we found the Crank Position Sensor measuring a short. Took it out of the car, cleaned it up and it measured out OK. (it also had what looked like metal dust stuck all over the magnetic pickup) Put it back in and the car started up like nothing was ever wrong with it. The strange thing is we never got 0802 when the car experienced the no start conditions. This usually happened after it sat overnight. Sometimes later on that day it would start again. It was really ****ing us off. All seemed fine until........
Now 2 weeks later, driving down the highway the car just dies. He had to have it towed to the dealer. Guess what it was that failed? Crank Pos. Sensor. Code 0802
If you've had a failure of this sensor, REPLACE IT! 70 bucks for the part at your local Nissan dealer. The whole ordeal cost over 300 bucks including the tow, diagnostic charge, labor bla bla bla from the Infiniti dealer. Don't get caught with this one, it's probably getting weak. Replace it now, or you may get stranded again, the car will not run if this part goes bad.

However that is a good idea, and if that code pops up again I will probably just replace it. 70 VS towing+70 I will go for the first one.

sorry to bring this subject up, I am a newbie here but I search the OBDII sticky and all over various sites with codes and the definition and can't find out what these 2 codes means it doesn't even list them on the various sites. I need to know what P0004, and P0800 means. Most of the Site starts with P0100 +up and ends at P0790 ans atrt up around P0802. thanx
btw it's a 97 Maxima with 129k miles

. This is kind of weird as other forum allow your to search the forum as a newbie, but can't start new thread and reply to other post until you reach certain post ie 100 and you can start new thread.

^^Yeah, take your car to an Autozone and they'll check the codes for you.
