If someone wants to cut you off, let them...

I was in a pretty bad car accident Sunday. My S/C'er is definately totalled. Unfortunately I could have prevented this, and figure that I should make an example out of myself. It keeps going thru my head this could have been worst, my 5mo old son could of been in the car, so many what ifs. However guys, do yourself a favor, if someone cuts you off...just let them...you might not like the results if you choose otherwise.

Basically I was going home from doing grocery shopping. Just me and a LOT of groceries (I shop 2 weeks at a time). I'm traveling south on 100th Ave, which is 4 lanes, that turns into Firdale Ave, which goes down to 2 lanes, and eventually turns into 205th/244th (same road, depends what side you live on for the name). Anyway I was in the left lane, and the road is merging into 2 lanes. There is a kid in a Acura RSX that decides she want's to cut me off to make the merge at the last second. Now to give you an idea, I have been cut off at this merge so many times, I've lost count. I was fed up. So I punched it and got ahead of her. While paying attention where her car was, I wasn't paying so much attention to the pickup truck that I was closing on...and very fast...at least 60mph. Well I panic, slammed on the brakes and pulled the wheel right. Unfortunately, there was a sidewalk there...car basically slams on that turns into a roller coaster since by now all 4 wheels have locked. I basically slide into a phone pole. I still had to be going at least 40 when I hit it.

Moral of the story, I'm the jackass. I should of let it go. Instead, I endangered myself, other people, and now I'm the one to pay for it (physically, I'm hurting bad, mentally, see the 1st paragraph above). Epic FAIL!

On a little side note, the girl pulled over. She got cited too.

Damn!! I'll be the first to say sorry for your loss. Glad you walked away from it and you'll be ok. Looks like a solid hit to that telephone pole. ouch!!

Also, you're quit the man for admitting the truth; most people would twist the story and admit no fault. Kudos to you bro.

1 is toast, 1 is rashed extremely bad. The other 2 look okay, but I'd be concerned with how the inside part of those rims are.

Thanks guys.

Wizard: Thanks man, I try to be an honest person, I could doctor the story up, but that isn't right. Besides, I made that decision to go for it, not the person cutting me off. It should be a lesson for everyone to watch out, and keep your cool.

There's not much worse than a grandma driver... except for the a-hole drivers that try to cut you off at the merges. Regardless, i don't blame you. I'd blame the other driver for provoking you.

Damn man that sucks. I did something similar when I hit a curb in my Z and I couldnt even be mad because it was my own dumb fault. Now I have 3 rims sitting in my house that I cant sell. Did any enigne parts get broken? I ask because I go to the junkyard alot and see 4th gens all smashed up but the eninge is still good.

Aw man. I saw the retro FS thread in the classifieds and was shocked, came to the 4th gen section for the explanation... I'm sorry man. You just got your car awhile ago too.

Thankfully you're ok and +1 on being the man and admitting the truth. People like that are very few and far between these days.

Do you have full coverage or is this coming completely out of your hide? Either way you will get shafted I guess, there is no way blue book will cover half of your mods.

damn man that really sucks. Im really sorry for your loss, that was a nice car. And I cant completely blame you either cause people like that **** me off all the time.

Whats the plans for the smashed car and for a new one? Take a pic of the engine bay, I want to see how bad of shape the super charger is in. Looks like the blower and timing cover plate should be ok....

The sad part is I had full coverage until a few month ago. My wife just had the baby and I was the only one working. I had to sacrifice my collision coverage. I still had everything else, so my injuries will be covered, the telephone will be covered, but the loss of the car is on me. Luckily my car has a LOT of mods in it. I'm sure I can still recover a good amount from the selling of mods.

I will part it out. The S/C appears to be unscaved. The radiator is pushed into the motor, so I'm unsure how it motor and tranny is fairing.

you're car was really nice though. I love a white 4th gen.

Damn! Your 4th gen was definitely one of my favorites...its too bad to see it in that shape. I'll give it to Nissan though, your car looks exactly the same way my friends 4th gen looked after slamming into a tree at 45mph. They hold up really well under hard impact.

Are you going to be looking to get another 4th gen to swap your mods, or are you going to sell off all your parts? Nonetheless, glad you are okay and still here to share your story with us today. It could have been a lot worse.

i'm glad you're okay.
i was in a similar situation last week sunday late night. i didn't want a subaru sti to pass me, so we both gun it. i was ahead by 2 car lengths and a curve came up very fast. it was too late and i started spinning out and i hit a curb. 2 of my rims are rashed very badly, 1 tire went flat, and another rim is okay. the girl pulled over and helped me change the tire. thankfully the car did not get hit, i only have a small scrape that is not noticeable on the bumper. i had to drive home 90 miles on a donut spare going 60mph cruise control the whole time. i felt like such an idiot and i put back the stock rims/tires the next day. i have an arctic white pearl 97 aswell, and i would have hated to see it totaled.

edit: what mods are you going to have on the market?

That really really sucks. I think we all know how irritating it is to know you're going to be cut off...many people would react the same way, so don't be too hard on yourself. Glad you walked away.

Looking back at my pictures, it looks just like my good friend's dad's 4th gen after he fell asleep at the wheel and hit a tree head on going approx. 45mph. He was lucky and walked away with only minor injuries, which hopefully was similar in your situation. Just goes to show how well these cars hold up in front end collisions though.

Not so much that I have no interest, just how the situation works out. My wife is likely to get her SE-R back from her mom, and I already have the 5.5 gen. It'd be cool to find a rosewood 4th gen, but I don't think that'll work out.
